LABOR & EMPLOYMENT LAW FIRM JOHNSON JACKSON LAUNCHES ITS INAUGURAL ‘COURAGE TO GROW’ SCHOLARSHIP

TAMPA, FL – Tampa-based labor and employment law firm Johnson Jackson PLLC is pleased to announce the launch of a new scholarship aimed at supporting the professional growth of law students who have overcome adversity. The Courage to Grow Scholarship, to be given out each academic year, will award $5,000 to a law student who identifies as being from a historically underrepresented background in the legal profession, and/or who has overcome significant obstacles, such as personal health challenges, lack of resources or family support, or some other challenge, to pursue a legal education.

“When we founded our firm in 2017, we developed our core values of teamwork, innovation, growth, excellence, and courage,” says Erin Jackson, Johnson Jackson Founding Shareholder.  “We work hard to incorporate these values into everything we do -- on behalf of our clients, with each other, and in our community. It’s with that spirit in mind that we wanted to honor one individual per year for demonstrating courage, even while facing hardship, to maintain their steadfast pursuit of education in the law.”

The scholarship’s creation was spearheaded by Partner Ashley Gallagher as a way to encourage diversity and inclusion in the field of law. To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must complete a personal statement detailing how they have exemplified these core values while overcoming obstacles in their legal education, among the other required criteria. Candidates must also demonstrate experience and/or interest in practicing management-side employment law, and intend to practice law in Tampa, FL upon graduation from law school.

“It was a team effort at our firm to make this happen, but I am delighted that the Courage to Grow Scholarship has now become a reality,” says Gallagher. “With its launch, I’m extremely excited to see what the scholarship becomes year after year, to meet our future recipients and hear their personal stories, and to help Johnson Jackson further connect with our community in such a meaningful way. Our goal is to acknowledge and recognize young law students’ efforts, while also establishing mentorship opportunities for them and taking at least a bit of the load off their shoulders.”

Potential scholarship candidates can find the full eligibility requirements and application directly on Johnson Jackson’s website. The final deadline to submit applications is August 1, 2023. The recipient of the inaugural Courage to Grow Scholarship will be announced by September 30, 2023.
